Documenting Parenting Time Violations (Without Making Things Worse)

If parenting time is being denied or manipulated, documentation matters—but so does staying calm and safe. The goal is to create a clean record that can be used by your attorney or the court.

Start with a simple log

  • Date/time of the exchange

  • Exact location

  • Who was present

  • What happened (short, factual)

  • Any messages/emails related to the incident

When an investigation helps

  • Repeated last-minute cancellations

  • Claims that you ‘didn’t show’ when you did

  • Concerns about who the child is around during the other parent’s time

  • Safety concerns that require objective documentation

This article is general information, not legal advice. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call 911. For legal guidance, consult a licensed attorney.
